Throughout the 1990's the Black Crowes were the one band who managed to stay in the present while rekindling the past. Their riffs and hooks, guitar and keyboard interplay, vocal mannerisms and lyrical obsessions all originated in the classic rock of their youth. They have sold over 20 million albums and were hailed by Melody Maker as "The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World". In 1990, the readers of Rolling Stone voted them 'Best New American Band'. The tough love and attitude behind "Jealous Again" " Hard to Handle," "She Talks to Angels," and "Remedy" have made them one of the biggest and most popular bands ever of classic rock.

Straight No Chaser are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. **Merle Haggard**
Thursday, November 11th, 7:30 p.m.
$75,65,49

The word “legend” usually makes an appearance at some point when discussing Merle Haggard. It's an acknowledgement of his artistry and his standing as “the poet of the common man.” It's a tribute to his incredible commercial success and to the lasting mark he has made, not just on country music, but on American music as a whole. If the question were asked, “Who forged the genre that is known today as ‘modern country music’?,” Only a tiny group of country immortals could step forward to share the spotlight. One, out of that select handful, would be Merle Haggard. Merle wasn’t in the delivery room on the morning country music was born; it simply seems like he was. And you won’t hear anybody refer to him as the father of country music. But many will swear he’s at least its godfather.
