***Jan 13-28, 2012 - Lend Me a Tenor
Ken Ludwig
Tenor Tito Merelli, known as “Il Stupendo,” is scheduled to sing the lead in Otello. But even before the star leaves his room, things begin to unravel. Merelli’s wife, who has mistaken an autograph-seeker hidden in his closet for a secret lover, leaves him a “Dear John” letter. The distraught Merelli is accidentally given a double dose of tranquilizers to calm him and passes out. The company’s manager is determined that the show will go on, so he asks his assistant Max to impersonate the opera star. Max puts on the blackface makeup required for the role of Otello, and his disguise succeeds admirably – until Merelli, also in blackface, wakes up and heads for the stage.
What follows is a chain-reaction of mistaken identity, farcical plot twists, double entendres, innuendoes, and constant entrances and exits through many doors. Don’t miss this evening of laughter, slapstick, and multiple projectiles!
Join the party on Opening Night! Celebrate the opening with hors d’oeuvres and desserts before the show on Friday, January 13 at 6:30pm.
***Feb 10-25, 2012 - Fences
August Wilson
Stage and screen actor Jernard Burks returns to SCT to portray Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded from the major leagues during his prime, Troy's bitterness takes it's toll on his relationships with both his wife and son who now wants his own chance to play.
In 2004, Jernard stole the spotlight as Boy Willie in SCT’s first August Wilson presentation, The Piano Lesson. Recently, Jernard has appeared in Four Brothers with Mark Wahlberg, Street Kings with Forrest Whitaker and Keanu Reeves, and the smash hit, The Hangover. On television, you might have seen him in The Bernie Mac Show or CSI.
Join us for hors d’oeuvres and desserts before the show on Friday, February 10 at 6:30pm.
